PREP GIRLS’ GOLF PREVIEW: Squalicum Storm

Coach: Chad Herman

Last year: Qualified three golfers to the Class 2A State Tournament. Finished ninth as a team at the state tournament after 16th and 31st individual finishes.

Players to watch: Maddi Atwood-Knudson (sr.), Christina Kim (jr.), Jordan Flannery (jr.), Kayla Holmes (jr.), Piper Moncrieff (jr.)

Outlook: Two of the three golfers that made the state tournament return for the Storm this season, as Squalicum prepares to be one of the top teams in the conference. At the top of the lineup for the Storm is Maddi Atwood-Knudson and Christina Kim. Either one of those could be Squalicum’s top golfer on any given day, and both have state tournament experience. Behind those two are juniors Jordan Flannery, Kayla Holmes and Piper Moncrieff, all of whom should make significant contributions to the Storm this season. Flannery missed making it to state last year, but her older sister, Courtney, did. Holmes and Moncrieff both have the potential to make state but they do have work to put in. “I want to get a many to the state tourney as possible,” coach Chad Herman said in a phone interview. “Four of the five girls on varsity have been to district competition. They know what it’s about and want to make the next step.”
