Coach: Laura Vincent
Last year: Didn’t qualify any golfers for postseason.
Players to watch: Madeline Fargo (jr.), Cassidy Justason (so.), Brooke Giffin (so.)
Outlook: The Borderites are a growing program with aspirations of eventually being competitive with most teams in the Northwest Conference. The best thing for a young girls’ golf program is to have the same girls show up year after year, and the Borderites definitely have that. Blaine returns all of its golfers from last season and adds a couple new faces to the mix as well. “It’s really exciting,” coach Laura Vincent said in a phone interview. “They’re having a lot of fun.” The returners from last season include junior Madeline Fargo and sophomores Cassidy Justason and Brooke Giffin. All of the returners should make contributions to the Borderites this season. “They all have their personal goals they set,” Vincent said. “Hopefully, we’ll have a few girls go to districts.” The Borderites don’t have a senior, and Vincent believes she’ll have a full set of returners next year, which is another positive sign for the Borderites. “We’re going to get better and better. We’ll be pretty competitive soon,” Vincent said. For now, the girls will continue to try to improve day by day. “They’re excited because they’re picking up where they left off. They’re swinging a lot better and working on their drivers now, which they didn’t get to last year,” Vincent said.
