Coach: Brad McKay
Last year: Won sixth consecutive Class 2A State Championship and 12th in 13 years. Won the Northwest Conference title. Three girls made second day of state.
Players to watch: Emma Lochridge (jr.), Sadie Steele (sr.), Alex Ferrier (jr.)
Outlook: The Red Raiders are always one of the top teams in the state and have had talent replace talent at the top of the lineup for years. But the Red Raiders will have difficulty replacing the year-round commitment Jenn Paul and Madi McNeely put into the game. “We don’t have big-time players outside of the season,” coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview. “We’ll have to wait and see what we’re going to be made of this year.” The top player will likely be junior Alex Ferrier, who finished 25th at state. Also among the top players on Bellingham’s 2015 squad is junior Emma Lochridge and senior Sadie Steele, who both made it to state last year but missed the cut. The Red Raiders may not have the top-level talent that it takes to win a state title, but they’ll certainly be among the top teams in the Northwest Conference. “In terms of where where we’re at by the end of the year, it’s going to be difficult to be at the same spot we’ve been at,” McKay said.
