Coach: Jeff Tetrick

Last year: Qualified one golfer to the Class 2A State Tournament.

Players to watch: Tavo O’Connell (sr.), Tanner Griffiths (sr.), Brandon Weeda (sr.), Logan Sitkin (so.)

Outlook: The Storm’s lone state participant, Tavo O’Connell, returns, and there’s several more coach Jeff Tetrick is looking at to make a run at the state tournament. “They’re all really strong kids,” Tetrick said in a phone interview. “We’re hoping we can get at least one more to qualify for state, so we can compete as a team.” The names Tetrick is looking at to possibly make state include seniors Tanner Griffiths and Brandon Weeda along with sophomore Logan Sitkin. “At this time all the golfers are shooting in the mid-80s, low 90s. As the season goes on, and the courses shape up, they’ll start getting in their groove.” Unfortunately for Squalicum after the top four there is somewhat of a drop off, and that could plague the Storm in conference play. Until the postseason Squalicum’s top-end talent has another responsibility — helping the younger guys out. “They have to show them what hard work and perseverance can provide — what the payout is for kids coming into the program,” Tetrick said. And they have plenty of advice to pass along for a Storm program, which looks like it could be a top 10 Class 2A team this year.
