Coach: Russ Dorr
Last year: Qualified two golfers for the Class 2A State Tournament, good enough for a fourth-place team finish after fifth- and 23rd-place finishes from the individuals.
Players to watch: Alex Crabtree (jr.), Ezra Arneson (jr.), Noah King (jr.), Tore Olson (jr.)
Outlook: The Lions have one of the top 1-2 duos in the state. Juniors Alex Crabtree and Ezra Arneson are each capable of top-five state finishes and will help lead the Lions in nearly every tournament this season. However, the group as a whole lacks depth. “We’re a little raw in the 3-4-5-6 area,” coach Russ Dorr said in a phone interview. “The improvement is going to show in the next month or two.” Noah King and Tore Olson are juniors who have some experience and should make strong contributions. King has a natural athleticism that will help, and Olson has become much more consistent. “We’re just trying to get a lot of reps underneath our belt,” Dorr said. It appears Dorr’s squad may struggle early to put out consistently low team scores, but the top-end talent is going to keep them in the race. Once the rest of the team starts to get back in golf mode, the Lions could top their fourth-place team finish at state from last season. “We’re going to be respectable and competitive pretty soon, not soon enough to contend for the league title, but we can compete with most everyone,” Dorr said.
