Coach: David Bobillot
Last year: Won the Class 2A State Tournament with four individuals in the top 30 at state. Won the bi-district tournament and Northwest Conference title.
Players to watch: Nick Nolan (jr.), Zach Nolan (so.), Ben Hendrickson (jr.), Johnny Larson (so.)
Outlook: Repeating as state champions is very difficult, but the Red Raiders may have the talent to do so. Last season, four individuals finished in the top 30, and only one of those players return, but that player is quite impressive. Nick Nolan, now in his junior season, finished 12th last year, including a 77 on the second day at Chambers Bay Golf Course. His younger brother, Zach, also could compete for a state spot, as he joined his older brother as a medalist in the first tournament of the season. Other notable players include junior Ben Hendrickson, who had a shortened season after a broken leg last year but has potential, and sophomore Johnny Larson, who played baseball last year but shows promise, coach David Bobillot said in a phone interview. “There could be a day they all break 80 at the same time,” Bobillot said. While a state championship repeat would be awfully nice, the goal is just to compete every week, Bobillot said. “It’s still early in the season obviously,” Bobillot said. “But they’re working pretty hard. They’re not exactly where they want to be, but it’s early.” Certainly, though, Bellingham is a favorite to win the Northwest Conference.
