Fakkema’s pair of wins lead Blaine

Blaine had five event wins, led by Jon Fakkema’s wins in the shot put and discus, at a boys’ track and field event with Mount Baker and Anacortes on Thursday, March 19, at Anacortes.

Fakkema threw a 130-foot toss in discus and had a 42-foot shot put, Blaine coach Carey Bacon said in a phone interview.

Alfonso Dermenziev won the 100 for Blaine, and Steven Crafts also won the long jump with an 18-03, Bacon noted.

“It was a great first meet for us,” he added. “A lot of kids were ready to find out some things.”

Jesse Phan was Mount Baker’s winner with a victory in the 800.

Blaine hosts Squalicum and Sedro-Woolley on Wednesday, March 25, at home. Mount Baker hosts Burlington-Edison and Meridian on the same day at home.
