Seven wrestlers from Ferndale’s boys’ wrestling team will be heading to the Tacoma Dome next weekend following their performances in the Class 3A Wrestling Regional Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
The Golden Eagles took third place as a team in the regionals behind Edmonds-Woodway and Arlington, the regional champions.
“I was hoping for better. But it shows we’re a pretty solid team,” Ferndale coach Caleb Schack said in a phone interview. “As opposed to just having two really good guys. It’s nice to show we’re coming together as a team.”
Broc Graves, wrestling at the 106 pound weight class, got fourth place. Devon Bennett (152) finished third place, Braiden Klimp (152) and Taylor Bellefuielle (152) finished third and fourth, respectively. Ben Broselle (160) finished second, Sam Cleary (182) finished fourth and Patrick Condon (195) finished third.

With seven wrestlers representing Ferndale next weekend, Schlack has high hopes for the state tournament.
“We had a tough regional tournament this year compared to the past. Getting through is an accomplishment and we have high hopes. I believe everyone can place at state,” Schlack said.
During the regional tournament. Ferndale had wrestlers who lost its first match and were able to bounce back in the next matches. If Ferndale can wrestle like the later matches, Schlack expects a lot of placers.
With a week until the state tournament, the seven Ferndale wrestlers will be fine-tuning their wrestling in preparation.
“We have a lot of things to work on. Each guy has to work on things individually,” Schlack said, “we’re going to spend a lot of time in individual stuff. It’s going to be the little things that matter. We’re going to get them perfected as close as we can and go from there.”
The Class 3A State Tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20-21, at the Tacoma Dome.
