Nooksack Valley comes out on top in 40-36 victory

Nooksack Valley’s girls’ wrestling team defeated Burlington-Edison 40-36 on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Burlington-Edison High.

The Pioneers’ Yazmin SanJuan-Morales (100 pound weight-class) pinned Arlache Montiel in the third round, Emma Bruntil (120) pinned Ashley Yates in the first round, Fabiana Hernandez defeated Marissa Blau 10-8 and Emily Parson (140) pinned Ziara Garcia in the first round.

The standout match of the night was Miana Rabang, Nooksack Valley coach Michelle Dekoekkek said in a phone interview.

“Mianas match went into overtime. She’s a fighter and it was quite impressive,” Dekoekkek said.

Nooksack Valley wrestles next in the sub-regionals at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Burlington-Edison.
