Meridian earned four wins in a boys’ wrestling match with Anacortes on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Anacortes.
Meridian’s Martin Pfannenstie won in overtime in the 113-pound weight class, Kenny Barnes won via pin at 138 pounds and Manny Sabalza earned a 15-0 technical fall at 152 pounds.
“Manny Sabalza is coming on,” Meridian coach Fred Pulphus said in a phone interview. “They’re hard-working and persistent, and they have an ‘I can’ attitude. They get wins where they aren’t expected to. They’re doing the right things to have a successful postseason.”
The fourth win actually came from Julie Velacruz-Aguilar, the Trojans’ girls’ wrestler. She won via pinfall.
Meridian has a bit of a break before the Class 1A Sub-Regional on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Mount Baker.
