The Sehome boys’ swim team won 10 out of 12 events, beating Squalicum 125-60 during a Northwest Conference swim meet Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center.
Mariners Isaiah Grambo and Zach Shenkin hand a hand in four wins each. Grambo won the 50 freestyle in 22.72 seconds, qualifying for state, won the 100 butterfly in 56.78 and swam a leg in Sehome’s 200 medley and 200 freestyle winning relays.
Shenkin’s 2:01.31 in the 200 IM not only won the race but the time was the second fastest swam in the state this season. The freshman standout also won the 100 free in 50.02 and swam in the 200 free relay and Sehome’s winning 400 free relay.
“All in all we did what we set out to do, and I was really impressed with the group,” Mariners coach Don Helling said in a phone interview.
Sehome (5-0, 5-0 NWC) faces Anacortes next in what will determine the league title at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29. Squalicum (4-3, 3-3 NWC) next takes part in the District Dive at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31.
