Mount Baker’s girls’ wrestling team placed nine of its 11 wrestlers in the top three to take first place as a team at the Jaguar Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Emerald Ridge High School in Puyallup.
Natalie Smith (120-pound weight class), Taylor Van Brocklin (135) and Akemi Schwinden (235) took first in their weight classes for the Mountaineers.
“They were moving really good today,” Mount Baker coach Clyde Blockley said in a phone interview. “Taylor, for her first year, she’s starting to figure everything out and it’s coming together easier.”
Second-place finishers for Baker were Teagan Manzo (110), Korbyn Cadle (115) and Rachel Nichols (145). Michelle Mata (100), Marissa Amarando (140) and Aniecea Camacho (155) took third for the Mountaineers.
Baker took first with 223 points, topping Washougal (128 points) and Centralia (101).
Mount Baker is in action again at the Lady Wolfpack Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Jackson High School in Everett.
