Squalicum places third in tournament

Squalicum’s girls’ bowling team placed third out of eight teams in the Crossover Tournament on Thursday, Jan. 22, at San Juan Lanes.

The Storm bowled a score of 1,552 as a team. Bobbie Cowgill bowled a team-high and personal best 189. Cowgill was also named the most improved player this season.

“Everyone was consistent and had a good night,” Squalicum and Sehome coach Erin Furda said in a phone interview.

Sehome’s girls’ bowling team didn’t place in the tournament. The Mariners’ standout bowler Mallory Karuzigh bowled a 153 and a 148 during the match.

“It was a fun tournament for us to get ready for districts next week. It was a good learning experience for them,” Furda said.

Both teams bowl next at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the district tournament in Tacoma.
