Lions hold off Nooksack Valley in close win

Lynden’s boys’ wrestling team held off Nooksack Valley for a 39-30 win Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Nooksack Valley.

Primitivo Cruz (113 pounds), Jordan Peterson-Scotter (120), Brody Weinheimer (182) and James Mitchell (195) earned pin wins for Lynden.

“After James’ pin the fire started blazing in the kids’ eyes,” Lynden coach Alan Moore said in a phone interview. “I think they finally started getting it. They stayed aggressive the whole night. Nooksack Valley wrestled pretty darn good, I think it just came out a little late for them.”

Nooksack Valley earned wins by pinfall from Taylor Gardner at 152 pounds and Jared Parson at 160 pounds.

“Jared and Taylor looked great. We look forward to seeing what they do in the postseason,” Nooksack Valley coach Chad Parson said in a phone interview. “They both had great technical matches and were solid against two really solid guys.”

Lynden will take part in the Panther Classic on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Snohomish High School, while Nooksack Valley is in action next at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Meridian.
