Outlook: The Golden Eagles are coming of a truly remarkable season after winning a regional title and advancing 11 wrestlers to the state tournament. Emulating last year’ success will no doubt be difficult, but with five state returners back and a promising group of young wrestlers, it isn’t out of the question. Under Schlack, the Golden Eagles have prided themselves in being in peak physical shape, and this year is no different. “One of the biggest things we always do is conditioning,” Schlack said in a phone interview. “We always make it a point to be in better shape than the other team. We try to do that a lot and have that never-quit attitude.” Seniors Bennett and Condon should be able to provide leadership to younger wrestlers, and junior Klimpand sophomore Broselle are two up-and-comers Schlack raved about. The Ferndale coach said the strength of his team is spread out with strong patches of wrestlers from 113-126, from 152-170 and 220 and up. “If everything goes right, I feel like we can win regionals again,” Schlack said, “and I think it’s possible to get double digits to state again.”
