Coach: Tom Hinz
Last year: Advanced three wrestlers to the Class 2A State Tournament and finished tied for 47th at Mat Classic XXVI with three points.
Wrestlers to watch: Riley Takemura (sr., 126); Blair Bennett (sr., 170); Alden Roberts (sr., 152); Sergio Torres (sr., 132); Ben Donnelly (so., 126)
Outlook: A strong mix of seniors combined with some younger talented athletes could make for strong year for Bellingham. Having leadership in the wrestling room is a plus for any team, and the Red Raiders certainly have their share. Those includes wrestlers such as Takemura, a three-year state participant, Bennett, Roberts and Torres. “Just true leadership,” Hinz said in an interview when asked what his core seniors bring. “They are all great kids that do the right thing all the time. They lead by example, and they handle weight management really well.” The Red Raiders are living by the motto of nothing worth having comes easy, and both Bennett and Roberts personfied that in the offseason by completing the two-week long J Robinson Intensive Wrestling Camp. If Belligham can maximize its potential, Hinz said he believes Bellingham has the ability to advance six or seven wrestlers to the state tournament. Another senior Hinz has high hopes for is Spencer Marshall-Rodenberg (182 pounds), who is coming off a strong football season.
