Anacortes’ boys’ swimming team won every event to take a 122-47 win over Lynden on Thursday, Dec. 11, at Lynden YMCA.
“They had a number of state times,” Lynden coach Steve Gibb said in a phone interview. “We have a new team with many, many freshmen. The returning varsity guys are hitting their best times from last year. We knew this was a building year.”
Lynden’s Michael Johnson took second in the backstroke with a 1-minute, 5-second swim, not far behind the winner’s 1:02.8. Jon Wiley also took second in the 500 freestyle with a 6:12. Dustin Hagedorn’s improvement in the breaststroke also impressed Gibb, he said.
Lynden will look for further improvement at the Northwest Conference Invitiational at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Fidalgo Pool in Anacortes.
