Blaine’s wrestling team defeated Mount Baker in its first dual match 61-18 on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Mount Baker.
The match between the Borderites’ Caleb Frey and the Mountaineers’ Jeremiah Cronk in the 152 weight class was the best match of the night, Blaine coach Craig Foster said in a phone interview.
“The match went all the way to the buzzer, it was an exciting one to watch,” Foster said.
Frey ended up winning the match against Cronk by a score of 4-3.

Blaine’s strong 43-point win over Mount Baker on the mats is evident from the amount of pins the Borderites were able to get during the match. Kristian Ebenal, Eric Davis, Matt Macauley and Collin Nielson all pinned their opponents.
The Borderites’ Colton Economy didn’t pin his opponent in his match but had a strong performance, winning by a score of 14-2.
“I’m proud of our team, we got some young guys being aggressive and not afraid to wrestle. It’s good to see as a coach,” Foster said.
Blaine and Mount Baker’s next matches will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, in the Battle of the Border at Blaine.
