Storm boys’ wrestling defeats Meridian

Squalicum won all but two weight classes to earn a 63-12 win over Meridian on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Squalicum.

The Storm had pin wins from Jace Cooper (113) and Alex Aguirre (195), and a 5-4 decision win from Alex Schermerhorn at 285.

“It was kind of lined up so my first-year wrestlers had matches, so it was cool to see them go out and battle,” Squalicum coach Russell Robinson said in a phone interview. “I was proud of Jace Cooper at 113. He’s tough and he showed it with a pin. He’s one we look for good things from. Alex at 285 had a close back-and-forth battle all night.”

Meridian’s Jake Cheney (106) and Jackson Lewis (138) earned pin wins for the Trojans. The rest of the matches were Squalicum wins by forfeit, except for a double forfeit at 160.

Squalicum will participate in the Battle at the Border at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Blaine. Meridian takes on Sehome at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at home.
