Mountaineers’ girls’ wrestling comes up short

Mount Baker’s girls’ wrestling team fell to Sedro-Woolley 36-30 in its first match of the season Thursday, Dec. 4, at Sedro-Woolley.

Marissa Amarado wrestled in her first match since her knee injury last season and was able to pin her opponent despite her nerves, Mount Baker coach Clyde Blockley said in a phone interview.

“There were six girls who had their first varsity match and three freshman in our lineup,” Blockley said. “We came out and battled, I thought it was a good outing for us.”

The Mountaineers wrestle next at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Nooksack Valley in the Royal Rumble.
