Coach: Clyde Blockley
Last year: Went 6-0 in dual meets. ... Finished in ninth place at the Mat Classic with 54 points. ... Won the Northwest District sub-regional. ... Won NWC Championships.
Wrestlers to watch: Lacey Postlewait (sr., 106), Natalie Smith (jr., 118), Jessica Mata (sr., 137), Rachel Nichols (jr., 145), Aneicea Camacho (jr., 155),
Outlook: Mount Baker was darn near perfect last season, winning all six dual meets, the sub-regional and the NWC Championships, while sending a whopping 10 wrestlers to the Tacoma Dome for the Mat Classic. But once the state championships arrived, the Mountaineers fortunes took a turn for the worse. Only three of the 10 wrestlers advanced past Friday’s matches, including losing Akemi Schwinden, who returns to the squad this season, to injury on the first day. The bright side though is that two of those three return to 2014-15’s squad along with several of the 10 that qualified for state. Heading this year’s group is seniors Lacey Postlewait and Jessica Mata along with juniors Natalie Smith, Rachel Nichols and Aneicea Camacho. There’s no doubt the Mountaineers are loaded with talent across the board.
