Outlook: The Lions are undoubtedly a young team, but there’s plenty for coach Santos Gallegos to be excited about. “All the coaches on staff have been saying ‘These girls pay a lot of attention. They seem like they’re focused,’” Gallegos said in a phone interview. The Lions return two state wrestlers from a season ago along with a cast of freshmen and sophomore rearing to go. Lynden also got a Texas state transfer, Crystal Cruz, who qualified for regionals in the Lone Star state. While the Lions certainly have their stars, this a team that’s hard to say where they’ll end at the end of the season, Gallegos said. “It’s a young team. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the younger girls come and surprise. I think we’re really going to surprise some people with our little team.” He added that even some of the freshmen are challenging the state returners from last season in practice.
