Lynden beats Burlington-Edison 54-24 in first match

Lynden’s girls’ wrestling team defeated Burlington-Edison by a score of 54-24 in its first match of the season Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Burlington-Edison High School.

Some new girls wrestling for Lynden stepped up in the first match.

Crystal Cruz, in her first season with Lynden, pinned Stephanie Becerra in 4:22. Basketball player-turned-wrestler Senaida Veliz pinned Kendra Van Beek in 1:29 and two-time-state participant Thalia Veliz pinned Jaden Shadle in 3:03.

The Lions will wrestle again at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at Nooksack Valley High School in the Royal Rumble.
