Coach: Don Helling

Last year: Finished 6-0 in Northwest Conference dual meets. Won the NWC Championship. Took eighth place at the Class 2A State Championships.

Swimmers to watch: Josh Larson (sr., sprints), Isaiah Grambo (sr., sprints, butterfly), Colin Hakeman (jr., freestyle, distance), Trevor Nims (sr., freestyle), Zach Schenkin (fr., butterfly, IM, sprints).

Outlook: The Mariners return their entire team from the 2013-14 that placed eighth at state. Among the top names are sprinters Larson and Grambo, who will join a class of newcomers that coach Don Helling says will “undoubtedly be an integral part of the team this year.” The young guns along with the wily veterans form an extremely deep squad that had 30 swimmers turn out. “I’m cautiously optimistic,” Helling said in a phone interview. “They are probably in the best shape of any early season group I’ve had recently.” With so much all-around talent, the Mariners will look to continue their 34-meet win streak in dual meets and get back to being state title contenders.
