Lummi’s Medina wins Northwest District boys’ title

For the second straight year, Lummi’s Enrique Medina will enter the Class 1B/2B State Championships on a high note.

Medina, a senior, claimed the 1B/2B Northwest District individual title on Saturday, Nov. 1, at South Whidbey, with a personal-best time of 17 minutes, 36.38 seconds on the 5,000-meter course, earning a spot in the field next week at state in Pasco.

As a junior, Medina claimed the title at the Westside Classic to earn a trip to state, where he ended up placing 43rd overall.

On Saturday, Medina beat out Crosspoint Academy’s Seth Huska by a a little more than three seconds.

This is the third year Medina has qualified for state — he also qualified as a freshman, when he placed 55th.

The Blackhawks also had Trisha Smith placed 59th at the 1B/2B quad-district meet, which was held at Rainier High school. Smith finished in 26:45.61.
