Squalicum’s volleyball team clinched a berth in the Class 2A District Playoffs with a 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-8 Northwest Conference win over Lynden on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Squalicum High School.
On senior night, it came down to the fifth set for the Storm and coach Laurie Quigley saw something new from her team.
“The fifth game was the most energy I’ve ever seen this team play with,” Quigley said in a phone interview.
With the Squalicum (6-8, 6-6 NWC) win, Lynden was denied a postseason berth and the Lions’ five seniors end their high school careers with a 6-8 record.

“Squalicum came out tenacious and determined,” Lynden coach Julie Clift said in a phone interview. “It was really back and forth. They just came out on top. I’m proud of my girls. They worked hard this season.”
Squalicum was led by Olivia Kyles, who had seven aces, and Kelsey Segren, who recorded 17 kills. Lynden had strong performances from Lauren Roddy (nine kills, three blocks), Taryn Fry (nine kills, five blocks), Maddie Kramme (eight kills) and Catyler Alex (37 digs).
The Storm begin the district tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 4, or Wednesday, Nov. 5.
