Ferndale’s volleyball team extended its win streak to five straight, beating Blaine 25-15, 25-21, 26-24 during a Northwest Conference regular-season finale Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Blaine High School.
Middle blocker Rose Compton recorded seven blocks and seven kills, outside hitter Whitney Walker led the Golden Eagles with nine kills and setter Abby Reid posted 15 digs and added 29 assists.
“This was our last regular-season game, and we tried to set the bar high for what our play was going to be (in postseason),” Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. “We struggled a bit and came back from being down in the third set and showed intensity.”
Spearheading the Golden Eagles’ late surge was Compton, who, with her 6-foot-2 frame, was pounding balls onto the other side of the net, Hoelzle said.
