The Squalicum volleyball team defeated a banged up Nooksack Valley 3-1 in a Northwest Conference match on Monday, Oct. 27, at Nooksack Valley.
The Pioneers (3-11, 3-9 NWC) were led by Katrina Gimmaka’s 11 kills. Brianna Turner added eight kills and 28 digs, and Nichole VanderHeiden had seven kills.
“We threw in some girls that don’t normally play, and they ended up being pretty productive,” Nooksack Valley coach Katie Emmons said in a phone interview. “One thing we were working on is keeping the ball in play, and we’re always trying to find shots that work. I thought we did a good job of finding things that are open and sticking with it.”
Nooksack Valley next takes on King’s in the first round of the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Lynden Christian, while Squalicum (5-8, 5-6) will wrap up its regular season Wednesday at home against Lynden.
