The Ferndale volleyball team sent its only senior off in style with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-15 Northwest Conference victory over visiting Lynden on Thursday, Oct. 23, as setter Abby Reid led the team with 27 assists and 18 digs.
“She is really the heart and soul of our team,” Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. “We couldn’t be as successful or have as much fun as we’ve had this year without here. We couldn’t be prouder of her, and we’re happy to send her out with a 3-0 win on senior night. She played phenomenally tonight.”
Despite jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first set, Ferndale quickly found itself in a hole. But the Golden Eagles (10-3, 8-3 NWC) rallied to win, and Hoelzle said she was pleased with the way the team “played strong and with purpose” throughout the second and third sets.
Rose Compton led Ferndale with nine kills, while Julia Olson, Taryn Potter and Whitney Walker each had seven.
