Nooksack Valley overcame a slow start to defeat Blaine 22-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-20 in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Oct. 23, at Nooksack Valley.
The Pioneers were led by Olivia Berkan’s 16 kills, four aces and 27 digs. Avery Tenkley added eight kills and 28 digs for Nooksack.
“They started out more scrappy and defensively disciplined than we did,” Nooksack Valley coach Katie Emmons said in a phone interview, “but then we picked up our side. We picked up more tips and roll shots and just played more disciplined.”
Elle Moore led the Borderites with 10 kills and 21 digs. Josie Deming added 15 digs and 34 assists.

Nooksack Valley also had 27 digs from Mariah Perry and 34 assists by Abbi Steele.
The Pioneers take on Lynden Christian on Friday, Oct. 24, on the road, while the Borderites host Burlington-Edison on Monday, Oct. 27.
