Ferndale’s serving puts Golden Eagles past Storm

Ferndale’s volleyball team recorded 18 aces, headed by Taryn Potter’s seven, to top Squalicum 25-15, 25-19, 16-25, 25-14 on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Ferndale High School.

Potter also had 13 kills while Abby Reid picked up 39 assists, 12 digs and five kills for the Golden Eagles.

“We came out strong,” Ferndale (8-3, 6-3 NWC) coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. “We wanted to clean up our side of the net and in serving we did that.”

Squalicum’s (3-7, 3-5 NWC) defense was a strong point, Hoelzle said, stopping many of Ferndale’s strong hitters throughout the night.

Ferndale faces Mount Baker on Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Deming. Squalicum plays Meridian Tuesday at Meridian.
