Baker gets competitive sweep over Meridian

Mount Baker’s volleyball team was able to get a sweep over Meridian on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Mount Baker High School. The Mountaineers won 25-18, 26-24, 25-13, having trouble with Meridian early on before pulling away in the third set.

“We struggled to show up the first couple games,” Baker (4-7, 4-5 NWC) coach Paige Huttula said in a phone interview. “We found a little more fire in game three and played more to our potential. Meridian’s a good team with good servers.”

Mount Baker’s Maddy Tanis led the Mountaineers with 12 kills and five blocks, Emily Yost had 22 assists, Sarah Verry had 14 digs and Emily Brandland had six kills and five blocks.

For Meridian (0-11, 0-9 NWC), it was Alexia Bernardy and Claire Burkett who led the Trojans. Bernardy had nine kills and 10 digs while Claire Burkett had seven kills and 16 digs.

Baker stays at home to face Ferndale on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Meridian returns home to play Squalicum Tuesday.
