Ferndale’s volleyball team took a three-set win over Northwest Conference foe Meridian on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Ferndale.
The Golden Eagles were led to the 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 win by Brittney Olinger’s six aces. Taryn Potter added 16 kills, and Kaylyn Whipkey had three blocks.
“I thought Meridian had a scrappy defense, so we worked on terminating on the first swing, and it worked well for us,” Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview.
Meridian was led by Alexia Bernardy’s six kills and 13 digs. Claire Burkett had three kills and 10 digs, and Ellie Dennis added four kills and 13 digs.

“We were definitely picking up so many balls and making plays on a lot of balls I thought would be down,” Meridian coach Shannon Claeys said in a phone interview. “I was proud that they didn’t give up.”
Ferndale takes on Squalicum at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Squalicum, while Meridian travels to Mount Baker at 2 p.m. the same day.
