2A district tennis tournament

Monday, Oct. 20

Bellingham’s Austin Shenton, above, will look to fight his way through a tough field at the 2A Northwest District Tournament. He should face strong competition from his teammate, Connor Thompson, and Sehome’s Brady Anderson and Max Shmotolokha.

Squalicum at Meridian girls’ soccer

4 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 21

The Storm, led by star junior forward Kim Hazlett, above, will look to take another step toward claiming a second consecutive Northwest Conference regular-season title. Meridian is a tough, albeit young, team that should pose a strong matchup.

Squalicum at Sehome girls’ swimming

3:15 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 21

Hannah Holmgren, above, and the Sehome girls’ swim team will face its toughest test of the season in a young Squalicum team, led by junior transfer Serena Allendorfer. The Mariners will rely on Gwen Roley, the reigning 2A 200 freestyle champion.

Lynden at Ferndale volleyball

7 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 23

Lynden and senior outside hitter Alexa Shindruk, above, have a long road ahead before making the 2A playoffs, a matchup with Abby Reid and Ferndale posing a big hurdle for the Lions. The Golden Eagles are playing as well as anyone right now, too.

Sehome at Squalicum girls’ soccer

7 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 23

Christina Funk, left, and the Sehome girls’ soccer team have been inconsistent, but the Mariners have the talent to hang with the top team in the league, Squalicum. This is a huge opportunity for Sehome to gain some confidence and make a strong push for the final 2A district playoff spot.
