DeWaard leads Lynden to win over Bellingham

The Lynden girls’ swimming team defeated Bellingham in a close matchup 86-80 on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center in a Northwest Conference matchup.

Despite falling to the Lions, the Red Raiders’ Sydney Terrell had a strong meet, winning the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 39.18 seconds. She also won the 100 butterfly in 1:17.27, and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team.

“We had a few best times, and it was a really close meet,” Bellingham assistant coach Lindsay Seefried said in a phone interview. “The girls got aggressive in their races.”

Shelby DeWaard shined for the Lions, winning the 200 freestyle (2:18.15) and 100 freestyle (1:02.71).
