Le, VonFeldt take two individual races for Storm

The Squalicum girls’ swimming team defeated Lynden 115-55 in a Northwest Conference matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Lynden YMCA.

Yani Le had a strong meet, winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, 48.7 seconds, and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.2). Abby VonFeldt also had two individual wins, taking the 200 individual medley (2:39.5) and 100 backstroke (1:10.5).

“Yani is always tremendous,” Squalicum coach Steve Gibb said in a phone interview. “She is not a distance swimmer, and is only three seconds off a state-qualifying time (in the 500 freestyle).”

Le dropped 15-plus seconds in that particular race.

Lynden got wins from Jadyn Elias in the 50 freestyle (28.47) and Shelby DeWaard in the 100 freestyle (1:03.5).

“She’s (Elias) just swimming well,” Lynden coach Linda Bode said in a phone interview. “I’m really pleased with her performance.”
