Sehome wins Twilight Invitational

Sehome’s cross country team had no trouble picking up wins in both boys’ and girls’ events on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Twilight Invitational in Marysville.

Emily Pittis won the individual event to lead the Mariners to a dominating team win. Her 18:44 bested the field by 30 seconds. Other Sehome runners that scored points for the Mariners included Maya Smith (20:00), Aili Emory (20:07), Abby Johnson (20:09) and Jessa Clark (20:20).

“They executed the plan,” Sehome coach Kevin Ryan said in a phone interview. “It was a conservative gameplan. They moved up throughout the race. They took the lead with a mile to go and stretched it out.”

The boys had an almost equally dominating team victory, paced by Kirby Overman’s second-place finish in 15:52.

“He ran a complete race,” Ryan said, “and competed down the stretch.”

Overman was backed by strong runs from Colton Johnsen (16:22), Sam Gilman (16:24), Ben Stalheim (16:49) and Tyler Caseria (17:02).
