The Ferndale boys’ tennis team showed the steady improvement Rudy Vendiola has been hoping for, topping Sedro-Woolley 5-2 in a Northwest Conference matchup on Friday, Oct. 3.
The last time these two teams met on Sept. 17 was much tighter, with the Golden Eagles prevailing 4-3.
“The team overall has improved as the season has progressed,” Vendiola said in a phone interview.
Ferndale’s singles players Maxwell Jeffery, Lake Sullivan and Colton Young all walked away with straight-set victories. In doubles, the pairings of Kevin Reitveld and Jacob Sorenson, and Kobe Sullivan and Joshua Usery also had strong, straight-set wins.
“They’re starting to find their strokes, which is good,” Vendiola said.
Ferndale hosts Anacortes on Monday, Oct. 6.
