Serving leads Ferndale to big win

Ferndale’ volleyball team cruised to a 25-22, 25-12, 25-9 win over Sedro-Woolley on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Sedro-Woolley in a Northwest Conference match.

The Golden Eagles took advantage of some good serving, as Abby Reid had five aces and Venessa Johnson added four. Reid also had 31 assists as the setter.

Whitney Walker added 12 kills, and Rose Compton had 11 more.

“We were coming off a big five-set match against Sehome, and we tweaked a few things, especially serving,” Ferndale coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. “I was proud of them for serving aggressive and not making many errors.”

Ferndale will take part in the Reach the Peak Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Glacier Peak.
