Nooksack Valley’s volleyball team rolled to a straight-set win over Meridian on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Meridian High School in a Northwest Conference matchup.
“They played really well. We’ve been working a lot with serving and serve receiving,” Pioneers coach Katie Emmons said in a phone interview. “We just played consistent. We were aggressive and smart.”
Olivia Berkan led Nooksack with eight kills and 22 digs, while Brianna Turner added seven kills and Abbi Steele had 24 assists.
For Meridian, the performances of Claire Burkett (10 kills, 16 digs), Emma Weg (five kills), Ellie Dennis (five kills, 20 digs) and Alexia Bernardy (five kills) excited their coach, Shannon Claeys.

“Our hitters had a good hitting night, like Claire was on. She couldn’t miss,” Claeys said in a phone interview. “Emma Weg had one of her best hitting nights ever, I would say. We just missed them toward the end of the games and made some passing errors.”
Nooksack Valley (2-4, NWC 2-2) travels to Anacortes on Tuesday, Sept. 30, while Meridian (0-5, 0-3) plays host to Blaine the same day.
