Squalicum’s volleyball team earned a three-set sweep of Blaine in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Blaine.
The Storm’s Katie Alvord led the way with six kills, and Kayla Holmes added two kills and two blocks in the 25-15, 25-20, 25-20 win.
“Kayla played her best game so far,” Squalicum coach Laurie Quigley said in a phone interview. “She had some things we’ve been working on click for her tonight. We worked on her arm swing and she got ahold of some balls that had some speed on them. We were just really spread out. We had good things all around.”
Blaine was led by Mikayla Deming’s seven blocks and eight kills. Elle Moore added 13 kills and 13 digs, Nicole Ortega had 15 digs and Alexis Hallburg had two aces.

“We just need to tighten in on little things that make great teams great, like defense, covering hitters and communication,” Blaine coach Bryan Clausen said in a phone interview. “Squalicum played great defense. We had 99 attacks and of them 31 kills, so they had about 40-50 digs.”
Blaine plays next at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Meridian. Squalicum takes on Mount Baker at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at home.
