Newcomers help Storm top Tigers

Squalicum’s boys’ tennis team earned a 5-2 Northwest Conference win over Burlington-Edison on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Burlington-Edison.

The Storm swept doubles play, including a 6-1, 6-2 win from new pairing Carter Nickelson and Neal Crawford and a 6-4, 6-4 win by another new pair, Liam Brownlie and Ethan Sayler.

Drew Segren earned another singles win at the No. 1 spot, and Tim Lann notched a 6-4, 6-1 win in his first varsity match. Cole Herdman and Luke Reinschmidt rounded out the Storm win with a 6-4, 6-1 doubles win.

“It was a good win for Tim and the doubles played well today,” Squalicum coach Joe O’Brien said in a phone interview. “Liam and Ethan pulled out a good match. They served well and moved well on the court. They dominated the net.”

Squalicum looks for another win at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at home against Lynden.
