Red Raiders push past Storm

Bellingham’s boys’ tennis team battled with Squalicum but came out victorious in a 5-2 Northwest Conference win on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Bellingham High School.

The Red Raiders doubles team of Zach Nolan and Chris Nakatani had a great match, as the duo came out on top of Carter Nickelson and Liam Brownlie 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

“I thought Zach and Chris played a really good third set,” Bellingham (6-0, 5-0 NWC) coach Steve Chronister said in a phone interview.

Squalicum’s Drew Segren topped Connor Thompson at No. 1 singles 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5) and Geogre Ashley and Zac Gosda got the victory at No. 3 doubles for Squalicum.

“We knew all the matches were going to be good matches,” Chronister said. “Even when the score didn’t show it, there were long rallies and good shots.”

Squalicum (3-1, 3-1 NWC) plays Burlington-Edison on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Burlington-Edison High School. Bellingham faces Sedro-Woolley on Friday, Sept. 26, on the road.
