Bellingham remains unbeaten in five-set thriller

The Bellingham volleyball team rallied to take the final two sets, defeating Nooksack Valley in five sets on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Bellingham High School in a Northwest Conference matchup.

The Red Raiders claimed the opening set 25-17, losing the second and third 25-23 and 25-22, respectively, before claiming the fourth 25-16 and the decisive fifth 15-7.

“They had to play as a team,” Bellingham coach Kim Bjorklund said in a phone interview. “We rise together or we fall together.”

Sophia Lawrence led the team with 25 digs. Olivia Bjorklund and Summer Douglas both added 13 kills in the comeback win, Douglas tossing in eight aces, as well.

Both Bellingham (4-0, NWC 2-0) and Nooksack Valley (0-4, NWC 0-2) are back in action Thursday, Sept. 25, with the Red Raiders traveling to Ferndale and the Pioneers going to Meridian.
