The Lynden volleyball team overcame a difficult opening set to defeat Blaine in four sets on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Blaine High School.
After dropping the opener 25-20 to the Borderites, the Lions rallied 25-11 in the second, 25-21 in the third and 25-14 in the fourth.
“We came out a little bit off and had a tough time passing,” Lynden coach Julie Clift said in a phone interview. “We just kept the ball off the net and passed more consistently after that.”
Alexa Shindruk led Lynden with nine kills and 21 digs. Lauren Roddy also had nine kills, and Catyler Alex added 24 digs and two aces.

Blaine’s Nicole Ortega had 15 digs, Mikayla Deming recorded nine kills and Elle Moore had eight.
“They played them pretty tough,” Blaine coach Bryan Clausen said in a phone interview. “Lynden’s experience overcame the whole match, but my girls played reall well.”
Lynden (1-3, 1-1 NWC) hosts Lynden Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, while Blaine (3-1, 1-1 NWC) hosts Squalicum next at the same time and date.
