Pioneers stumble early, but come back in close loss

Nooksack Valley’s volleyball team gave Burlington-Edison a scare as the Pioneers took a 25-13, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22 loss to the Tigers in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Nooksack Valley.

Olivia Berkan led the Pioneers with eight kills and three aces.

Avery Tenkley added five kills and 15 digs, and Mariah Perry had 19 digs.

“We just made so many unforced errors in game one,” Nooksack Valley coach Katie Emmons said in a phone interview. “We talked about taking the shots that are open for us and continuing things that are working. We found some spots in the last three games and attacked the middle of the court.”

Nooksack Valley plays next at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Bellingham.
