Lynden Christian’s volleyball team turned in a dominating performance to open its season with a 25-5, 25-10, 25-13 win over Meridian in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Lynden Christian.
The Lyncs were led by Kara Bajema’s 14 kills and five digs. Madison Weg added 19 assists and five kills, Hannah Rusnak had seven aces and Morgan Van Kooten had six kills and four blocks.
“It was our first match of the season, so we were ready to have a match. They came out ready to play someone other than each other,” Lynden Christian coach Kim Grycel said in a phone interview. “It was good to get one off. We have a tough week next week against Ferndale and Lynden, plus two of the top 1A teams next Saturday. Those are four tough matches, so we’ll see if the girls can repeat this.”
The Trojans did a good job on defense and sent a lot of balls back over the net, leading to long rallies, Grycel said.
