Magnusson’s 4-second win leads Meridian

Meridian’s Collin Magnusson won the race to lead the boys’ cross country team in a Northwest Conference meet on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Anacortes High School.

Also participating in the meet were Anacortes, Burlington-Edison and Sedro-Woolley. Team scores were not provided.

Magnusson ran the 5k course in 16 minutes, 12 seconds to earn a four-second victory.

“I thought for a mid-week race our kids performed well,” Meridian coach Mike Holz said in a phone interview. “Collin looked strong again and his summer training is really showing.”

Teammate Derek Morrow ran a 17:25, Derek Holz had a 17:52 and Riley Hawkins-Hecock ran an 18:28.

Rounding out the Trojans’ top seven were Levi Morrow with an 18:31, Kenny Barnes’ 19:42.78, and McKay Ross at 19:51.

Meridian will participate in the South Whidbey Invitational at 11:55 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at South Whidbey High School.
