Ferndale’s volleyball team battled with Lynden and prevailed 25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17 on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in a non-conference game at Ferndale High School.
Ferndale’s Whitney Walker and Taryn Potter combined for 24 kills on the night.
“Lynden has strong defenders and our offense had a hard time getting points and putting the ball away,” Ferndale (2-0) coach Patti Hoelzle said in a phone interview. “We have a young team and were having trouble adjusting. But everyone came in and contributed.”
Lynden (0-2) got strong performances from Lauren Roddy (17 kills), Taryn Frey (six kills, four blocks) and Alexa Cox (34 digs).

“We came out with a lot more energy than we have so far this year,” Lynden coach Julie Clift said in a phone interview. “Ferndale is a hard-hitting team and we weren’t intimidated.”
The Lions face Sehome on Thursday, Sept. 18, on the road. The Golden Eagles play Anacortes Thursday at home.
