Ferndale’s boys’ tennis team came up just short in a few matches as it lost to Squalicum, 7-0, Monday, Sept. 15, at Ferndale High School.
The Golden Eagles’ Maxwell Jeffery improved, but fell just short in his 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) loss to Kevin Smiley.
Lake Sullivan suffered a similar fate in his 6-3, 7-5 loss to Squalicum’s Neal Crawford, as did the Ferndale team of Jacob Sorenson and Curtis Matson in their 6-4, 7-5 loss to Cole Herdman and Luke Reinschmidt.
Ferndale coach Rudy Vendiola was happy that Jeffery, Sullivan, Sorenson and Matson were able to make adjustments and be more competitive in their second sets, he said in a phone interview.
The Golden Eagles will look for a win in their next match at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Sedro-Woolley. Squalicum hosts Sehome at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.
